W. V. HUMBOLT AND EUSKAL HERRIA

According to W.von Humboldt one´s perception of life is made through language. His scientific aim was the comparative studies of languages and national characteristics as well as its vital meaning.

His wide studies about the Basque language were the basis to consider Humboldt one of the founders of the modern and comparative Filology. He helped also to extend the Basque language throughout the romantic Europe although he was not a profesional linguist himself.

In Humboldt´s eldest son´s biography we can appreciate his known skill as a politican, his passion for Philosophy and as reformist of the education. He founded the University of Berlin. But he was above all a great humanist and friend of the Basque people.
